TINY HANDS (3-4)

Art is a skill developed over time, and we understand the importance of building that foundation. In our Tiny Hands classes, your children will begin to express themselves through art. Students will work through this two-year program in various guided, small group activities that encourage community, collaboration, and relationships. This class introduces your children to drawing, painting, clay, printmaking, collage, design, and more.

INTRO TO ART (5-6)

This two-year program introduces your children to beginning art skills, tools, and basic vocabulary. At this level, students are encouraged to learn new skills and express interest in different art mediums. Your children will create with clay, printmaking, charcoal drawing, painting, design, montage, watercolors, sculpture, stain glass, and more. Students will learn about color theory, including primary, secondary, cool, and warm colors. They will have the opportunity to acquire new skills, gain self-confidence, and achieve recognition for their creations.

BEGINNING ART (7-8)

As a follow-up course to Introduction to Art, Beginning Art is an appropriate introduction class for children seven and eight years of age. Students develop skills and become more comfortable with art tools at this level. Your children will experience the next level of art vocabulary and utilize knowledge of color theory. They will learn about design principles as they create and explore. Beginning Art is a two-year program that offers opportunities for students to utilize charcoal, mono printing, clay, ink, color design, collage, self-portrait, watercolors, balsa wood carving, sculpture, and much more.

ART 1 (9+)

The purpose of this class is to maximize and maintain your child’s art interest as they develop a higher level of skills and knowledge. This class will also enable each student to begin building their portfolio. Art 1 is the foundation class of our overall four-year curriculum. Your Art 1 student will complete classes of monochromatic work, developing an increased understanding of line, value, and texture. Projects will include ebony pencil from photomontage, charcoal still life, India ink design, and scratchboard art. Several weeks into the next session, students will study color theory in-depth. They will utilize this knowledge to succeed in color design projects that will ensue. Art 1 also includes work in hand building with clay.

ART 2 (10+)

This class builds on the knowledge and skills attained in the Art 1 curriculum, bringing their portfolios to the next level. After setting a strong foundation for color theory and value, students will apply those skills to more projects. Your child will use their color knowledge for watercolor landscape paintings and pastel self-portraits. They will also build on their understanding of value through an intense black and white stippling design. Students have the opportunity to work with clay, including the design and building of a hand-built coil pot. They will also explore ink and watercolor pencil as they complete an architectural type drawing.

ART 3 (11+)

This class is for art students who have completed the Art 2 curriculum. Students take their art skills to an advanced level by working in 3-D with clay and cast paper. They will also gain experience in 2-D with gouache, sketch and wash, graphic design, and 5-Color Block Printing. At this stage, students’ portfolios continue to expand to include more intensive projects that help them grow their passion for a particular art area.
